Drummond fails ontarians on energy

PC Energy Critic and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says Don Drummond has missed a golden opportunity to set Dalton McGuinty straight on his broken energy policy.

“It’s baffling to me that while Drummond is willing to call for the reversal of other core Liberal policies, he refuses to call for changes to a Green Energy pipe dream that is only driving energy costs up and jobs out of Ontario,” said Fedeli.

“Drummond seemingly ignores the fact the Auditor General just two months ago said that we lost $1.8 billion exporting surplus power to Quebec and the United States,” Fedeli said.

“If you want to find savings, Dalton’s failed Green Energy plan is one of the first places we should start.”

Drummond also taps out when it comes to calling for an end to the bloated Feed-In-Tariff subsidies paid to wind and solar producers, and seems to suggest Ontarians should just accept higher hydro bills – something Fedeli says isn’t acceptable.

“On our current course, hydro bills are expected to rise another 46 per cent by 2015.  I don’t know many Ontario families or businesses that can absorb that,” said Fedeli.

“There’s a better way.  The FIT subsidies must end and Ontario must begin pursuing clean, reliable energy at a price we can all afford -- together.”
