Basketball enthusiasts will again see action as the 3rd Miners Cup Basketball Invitational Tournament opens on November 19, Saturday at the Baguio City National High School Gymnasium.
According to Felizardo “Zards” Gacad, president of the Club 78-82 of Saint Louis University Boys High and organizer of the Miners Cup, the tournament was organized to provide a venue for young basketball players to experience competitive play and allow them to further develop their skills.
Gacad adds that what makes the Miners Cup different among other tournaments is the giving of scholarships to poor but deserving students who would be selected by a search committee of the organizers.
At the moment the tournament has already sponsored five high scholars from the BCNHS and SLU.
Gacad said that the Club 78-82 also has done a golf tournament for a cause for the benefit of the SLU Halfway House for Boys early this year and will again be duplicated for another cause next year.
The Miners Cup is also in partnership with the Philex Mining Corporation, Consolidated Mining Corporation, and the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association.
