Thirty–three private schools in Eastern Visayas operating without government permits (GP) were given until the third week of August to comply with the requirements needed pursuant to being granted the permit to operate a school.

The Department of Education in the region is adamant in running after private schools without government permit to operate.

Dr. Luisa Bautista–Yu, DepEd regional director, said the education department is serious and vigilant on the mushrooming of public schools in the region.

She has directed all schools division superintendents to look into the matter and ensure that private schools without GP comply with the requirements and submit said requirements to the Quality Assurance and Accountability Division (QAAD) of the department after the documents have been thoroughly evaluated by the respective Schools Division Offices.

QAAD records show that as of July 23 the 33 private schools operating without GP are located in Biliran Division – six; Leyte Division - 15; Maasin City – one; Northern Samar Division – six; Ormoc City Division – two; Samar Division – two; and Southern Leyte Division – one.

It was learned that DepEd’s Division Education Program Supervisors in–charge of private schools are tasked with the proper evaluation of the documents on the application for Government Permit to operate where the documents are then forwarded to Regional Office for approval and grant of government permit to operate.
