Vice President Jejomar Binay said the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and other shelter agencies distributed relief goods to some 8,200 families affected by the monsoon rains in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Binay said the National Housing Authority (NHA) dispatched relief goods and medicines to around 3,000 families in the various resettlement sites in Rodriguez, Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, and Sto. Tomas, Pampanga. According to Binay, the HUDCC also distributed food and water to families in Northville 9, Calumpit, Bulacan, who are still housed in evacuation centers while the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) extended assistance to families in Quezon City, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Malabon, and Sta. Cruz and Victoria in the Province of Laguna. These families are members of homeowners associations under the agency-administered Community Mortgage Program. Binay also directed the shelter agencies to assess the damages brought by the monsoon to the different housing projects that they administer or manage. “I have directed the NHA, in particular, to determine and implement measures that would address the flooding problem in Kasiglahan Village 1 & 2 in Rodriguez, Rizal,” Binay said. Binay said he is thankful for the efforts of the key shelter agencies in giving aid to those affected by the monsoon and is confident that Filipinos can rise above the calamity. “Let’s all help each other in order to save the lives of our countrymen affected by the floods,” he added. Binay on Friday visited the families affected by severe flooding in Paombong, Malolos, Pulilan and Bustos in Bulacan. The Office of the Vice President (OVP) also conducted simultaneous relief operations in Cainta and San Mateo Rizal; San Miguel, Bulacan; Malanday, Marikina; Cavite City, Rosario and General Trias. The OVP previously sent 1,000 bags of food items to evacuees in Montalban; 200 in Sto. Domingo Church; 200 in University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center; and 1,000 in Bagong Silangan.
