TS 'Helen' makes landfall

Tropical storm “Helen” has made landfall in Isabela and is now bringing heavy rains and strong winds in the province.

As of 10 a.m. the center of Tropical Storm Helen was located at 40 km South Southeast of Aparri, Cagayan, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its official Twitter account.

Pagasa said they forecasted Helen to move west northwest at the speed of 17 kilometers per hour (kph).

Public storm warning signal #2 has been raised in Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Northern Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Abra and Batanes Group of Islands.

The following areas are under signal #1: Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, La Union and the rest of Aurora.

With maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph, Pagasa said they expect Helen to be 200 km west northwest of Laoag City by Thursday morning and 600 km west northwest of Laoag City by Friday morning.

The weather bureau has maintained its advice against fishing boats and other small seacrafts venturing out to the seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon and Visayas due to Helen and the southwest monsoon. (PIA-GHQ)
