DILG validates Lupong Tagapamayapa awards nominees
posted 24-Mar-2012  ·
The Department of Interior and Local Government started the regional validation of the nominees for the Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Award (LTIA) for 2012 this week.

According to DILG Information Officer Myles Colasito, DILG Assistant Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe led the Regional Assessment and Validation Team that visited Barangay Rawis in Calbayog City, one of the nominees last March 22.

The team is also set to visit other regional finalists namely Barangay Tagnipa of Maasin City, and Barangay Cogon of Ormoc City for component and independent cities; Barangay 69 Anibong, Tacloban City; Barangay HIngatungan, Silago, Southern Leyte; Barangay Biasong, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte; Barangay Nena, San Julian, Eastern Samar; Barangay Bato, Borongan City; Barangay Bulalacao, Kawayan, Biliran; and Barangay San Juan, San Isidro, Northern Samar.

Included as members of the Team are Mr. Ricardo Gio of the Local Government Capacity Development Division and Ms. Geselle Endriano, the regional program manager of LTIA.

The Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards (LTIA) was established pursuant to Section 406 (b) of the LGC of 1991 which mandates the DILG to grant economic and other incentives to Lupong Tagapamayapa for their outstanding contributions to attain the objectives of the Katarungang Pambarangay.

Katarungan Pambarangay (KP) is the Philippine response to the continuing global search for indigenous mediation structures capable of resolving disputes within a community, and beyond the formal courts of justice. The principal feature of KP is the Lupong Tagapamayapa. For years of conflict resolution of experiences, there is the view that successes have been largely attributed to the commitment and dedication of Lupon members in the performance of their duties and responsibilities.

Cognizant to the significant contributions of the “Lupon” in the furtherance of the KP objective through the years, the DILG launched the Lupong Tagapamayapa incentives awards, both as a function of public policy and as a tribute to outstanding Lupon performance.

In the regional search, the members of the evaluation team will be assessing the contenders based on their exemplary performances, achievements, accomplishments, innovations and strategies in making their barangay free from conflicts, peaceful and orderly.

The regional winner will be unveiled by mid-April who will represent the region in the national level. Awarding will be in Malacaňang in October.

Among the Lupons in the Region that has been recognized in the National Level is Barangay Hingatungan ha Silago in Southern Leyte which was awarded as first runner up in the 4th to 6th class category last year. (EOPT/PIA 8)
