Phl Participates in First Tomohon International Flower Festival 2012

The Philippine delegation participated in the first ever Tomohon International Flower Festival (TIFF) 2012 last August 8.

The Philippine float was one among four other countries which had floats, including the United States (US), France, the Netherlands, and North Korea. Provinces, towns, cities, government agencies, and local non-government organizations (NGOs) also had floats made of flowers, a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

The Philippine float is a jeepney made of flowers with a rooster atop it. The flowers on the jeepney were the famous Tomohon chrysanthemum in yellow and white colors.

Vice Minister Dr. Sapta Nirwandar of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Vice Minister of Agriculture Dr. Rusman Heriawan, North Sulawesi Governor Dr. Sinyo Harry Sarundajang, Tomohon City Mayor Jimmy F. Eman, Bupatis, heads of regencies (equivalent of governors in the Philippines), and other dignitaries graced the occasion.

Foreign diplomats present were Philippine Consul General Jose D.R. Burgos, Ambassador Noel Lehoko of South Africa, Honorary Commercial Counsellor of France, Mr. Michel Renaud, and Acting Head of Post of the US Consulate in Surabaya Consul Nicholas Heltzel.

Bishop Joseph Suwatan of the Diocese of Manado City also attended the event.

The Vice Minister, Governor, and Tomohon City Mayor delivered their messages during the opening ceremonies.

The Philippine delegation was represented by Ms. Agnes Marie G. Abrou, Managing Director of Expat Communications, Inc.

Philippine representation to the event is part of the growing tourism activities between Mindanao and North Sulawesi in the eastern part of Indonesia. It is one of the results of the recent resumption of direct flights and soon sea travel between the two regions. (DFA/PISU)
