Typhoon Pablo leaves 6 dead, 1 missing in Bukidnon

Typhoon Pablo (Bopha) has left at least six people dead and one missing in Bukidnon, Arsenio L. Alagenio, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Officer, said on Thursday.

The fatalities include a 6-year-old boy hit by a tree, toppled by strong winds, and another who was drowned while trying to save his hog floating in the gushing floodwaters in the river.

‘Pablo’ cut through the Province of Bukidnon, Tuesday, December 4, with maximum winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) and forceful wind bursts of 210 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

It knocked down electric powerlines, uprooted trees and tore off roofs of houses and infrastructures in the towns of Baungon, Libona, Malitbog, Manolo Fortich, Sumilao, Talakag, Cabanglasan, Lantapan, San Fernando, Quezon, Maramag, Impasug-ong, Pangantucan, Kibawe, and the two cities of Malaybalay and Valencia.

As of last count, the PDRRM Operations Center reported the casualties namely Roniel Brandares, 6 years old from San Isidro, Valencia City who was hit by a fallen tree; Oscar Diandoy, 41, Dagondalahon, Talakag, hit by a wind-toppled tree; Ramonito Bongcasan, Manolo Fortich; Jeno Sagayna, 23, drowned, San Luis, Malitbog; Juanito Cabasag, 65, Gango, Libona, death caused by hypothermia; Estelita Pat, 77, Pualas, Baungon town.

Still missing as of this report is Jerick Juan, 16 years old from Canangaan village of Cabanglasan municipality, this province.

PDRRMO Alagenio reported the provincial government’s distribution of relief supplies such as food and medicines.

Several organizations like Pilipinas Natin Builders, Philippine Red Cross, and all other private organizations also distributed relief goods to support thousands of families who survived Pablo’s onslaught. (Iyren A. Dalipe, BSU DevCom/RLRB, PIA10 Bukidnon)
