'Early Registration Day' for public schools is on January 26

“Early Registration Day” for the School Year(SY) 2013-2014 in all public elementary and secondary schools is on January 26 as stated in the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 89 of 2012 duly signed by DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro.

Secretary Luistro stated in his order that the activity aims to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) on Universalization of Primary (Basic) Education and the Education for All (EFA) and completion of the cycle thus the theme, “Makapag-aral ay Karapatan Mo, Magpalista Ngayong Enero.”

The “Early Registration Day” has the following objectives: to ensure the enrolment of all five year-old and six year-old children for the SY 2013-2014 in Kindergarten and Grade 1; guarantee enrolment of the OSC and the OSY with disabilities from the disadvantaged groups for the indigenous peoples (IPs) and street children ages a5 to 8 years old in their preferred education delivery system; establish census of the OSC and OSY with disabilities and provide them with appropriate education interventions; enable the different DepEd levels to prepare the Three Year catch-Up Plan in Basic Education from SY 2012-2013 to SY 2014-2015 to accommodate registered learners; to enable the Department of Education in collaboration with the local government units and other stakeholders to make the necessary preparation and address potential resource needs in time for the opening of classes and tprovide interventions to prevent school drop outs.

Local and barangay officials are enjoined to conduct a massive advocacy campaign in collaboration with the DepEd Regional and Division Communication Teams and with the support of other stakeholders for the early registration of out-of-school children (OSC) and out-of school-youths (OSYs), including the children and youth with disabilities and the regular pupils and students starting January 7.

Meanwhile, DepEd advises children born on October 31, 2008 or earlier shall be eligible for early enrolment in Kindergarten while those born on October 2007 or earlier, with or without kindergarten experience shall be eligible for early enrolment in Grade 1.

Parents of kindergarten, grade 1 enrolees and children or youth who have never been to school are required to bring the birth certificate of their child. (RJB/LFB-PIA NCR)
